It will thus be seen that there are more inducements

and prospects for officers in the Straits Settlements to stay in th Post Office in contentment and patience, as the hopes of reaching a living wage in time is assured.

We most urgently beg that a similar system be follow -ed in Hongkong and permit more of the older officers, when reach- -ing a certain term of service to be promoted to a higher trade, the number of which be correspondingly increased to something like

the standard in the Straits Settlements.

A report was submitted to the Posturster-General,
